The Great Commission
The Great Commission is the instruction of the resurrected Jesus
Christ given to his disciples, that they spread his teachings to
all the nations of the world. It has become a tenet in Christian
theology emphasizing mission work, evangelism and baptism. It
is a primary basis for Christian missionary activity.
The Great Commission is found in the Gospel of Matthew:
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has
been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with
you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew
28:18-20)
Jesus gave this Great Commission to the Apostles shortly before
He ascended into Heaven. The Great Commission essentially gives
what Jesus expected the Apostles, and those who followed them,
to do.
